Gods Timing

Image
We hear allot about Gods timing. I think we’ve all experienced Gods timing in our lives. We want something now.. but it comes later. We need something soon.. but we have to wait. We’re not good at waiting. I’m guilty of it myself. So many times God seems to answer prayers in the “eleventh hour”. “What’s the delay?” we think. There are other times He doesn’t seem to answer some prayers at all. Hindsight is an incredible thing in life….but especially in our faith life. Those times we feel God doesn’t answer us, is usually because His answer didn’t align with our expectations. Do you know the story of the woman who was caught up in a huge storm? She prayed to God to save her. A car came by, a boat came by then a helicopter came by And she told them all the same thing. “Move along…I’m waiting for God to rescue me!” The punchline of the story is that, when she gets to heaven she asks God why he didn’t save her! God’s response is “I sent you a car, a boat and a helicopter...

Keep Out

People wear helmets in many different situations but ultimately, it’s for the same reason; to protect their head. Construction workers, football teams and in some states motorcycle riders are required to wear helmets. Soldiers also wear helmets in the midst of battle. What’s so important about our heads that we want to protect? They hold our minds…our brains…our thoughts. In Ephesians 6:17 it says… “Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God ” The helmet of salvation is our spiritual defense weapon. It protects our mind from debilitating thoughts. When we put on these helmets of salvation, we are asking God to guard our minds. We’re telling the enemy to “Keep Out” and stay out. What’s so dangerous that could hurt our minds? The world is full of things that come at us visually and audibly. Some things are right there in front of us and others more subtle. The enemy works against our minds by trying to fill our thoughts w...

What are you wearing?

Are you wearing a fig leaf or a robe of righteousness. Seems like a strange question, doesn’t it? But it’s an important question. In order to answer that question, we need to understand the significance of both. You might recall that upon stepping into sin, Adam and Eve realized they were naked and grabbed some fig leaves to cover their shame. “At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So, they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.” -Genesis 3:7 What about a robe of righteousness? “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”-Isaiah 61:10 God does not want us to adorn ourselves in fig leaves. God our Heavenly Father wants us to be able to wear a robe of righteousness, but many times we fall sho...

The Holy Mundane

Image
What is worse than waiting? Having to deal with the trivial and mundane things of life while you wait. When we’re waiting for something we become focused on it. We want to contribute to the process of its fruition. We want to be part of the progress. But that’s not always how life works. Most times we have to deal with the mundane things of life while we hope for the future . As we wait for that new position to open up, we have to continue working in our present job. As we pray for resolution of a problem we have to attend to daily tasks. While we wait for change in the future we continue to deal with the now; all the things that have to be taken care of today. Theres a lesson in the story of Noah that if we’re not careful we’ll miss. Yes, it is absolutely a story of obedience and trust. It’s an example of moving forward when we don’t know what is in the steps ahead to come. About taking directions when we don’t understand the entire task at hand. I’m sure there was u...
