Keep the Light On

Image
The world was a dark place. Gods people had not heard from God in 400 years. Quiet and darkness Like a room unable to be crossed because each step was full of uncertainty. Eyes unable to focus or guide because there was nothing distinguishable around them. I don’t know about you, but sometimes in a pitch black room I wind up closing my eyes as I navigate it. I put my arms out in front of me and hope for the best as I take that first uncertain step. Gods people were doing the same in this time of darkness. Their arms moving desperately to get their baring’s on something solid. Something that could guide them through the dark. But there was nothing there….except darkness. Then Jesus came and turned the light on. The room…the world was filled with His light. Illuminated with the warm glow of his Love, Hope and Peace. Some opened their eyes to see the light.. and some did not. The people we’re shown the way at last, but only those with eyes and ears open to see….s...

The Spirit of Christmas

The Spirit that comes upon Mary to bring the conception of Christ echoes the Spirit that hovered over the waters in the account of creation. Take a peek at Genesis 1:2. “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. ” The earth was void and without form in the beginning just as Mary’s womb was void until the Spirit filled it with the Son of God. Our lives are void without the presence of Jesus in them. We feel that void and try desperately to fill it with all the wrong things at times; frustrated by the fact that our own personal world seems formless and empty. Darkness covers the deep waters of our lives without Jesus, but yet The Spirit hovers close over the surface of our emptiness awaiting an invitation to enter. When we invite the Lord into our lives the darkness is overcome. “The light shines in the darkness,      and the darkness can never extinguis...

Rescued

There’s something so beautiful about the birth of a child. The newness. The innocence. The hope for things to come. There’s no past…just a vision for the future. How appropriate then, that God sent His one and only Son as a baby, to save us. To make us new. “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the  Lord . “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. ” -Jeremiah 29:11 When we look at that baby in a manger, we see not only Jesus himself, but the gift that He brings to us. Newness . Hope for things to come. Jesus came to take away our sins. To make us innocent before God. To wipe away the things of the past. Like a new baby with no past and only future hope, the birth of Jesus gives us the opportunity to start anew. Babies are also completely dependent on their parents to care for them. They can’t feed or cloth themselves. They can’t walk or even crawl in the very beginning of their new lives. They are in a total state of sur...
