Healing
When we don’t feel well or something hurts, we Google our symptoms trying to find out what’s gone wrong. We then sit reading all the possibilities with our untrained intellect; taking big guesses and coming to conclusions that have no real basis.
At times we reduce our faith to this technique as
well. We try to navigate life with the limited surface knowledge that we have;
basing our observations simply on what we “feel”.
Just try Googling “I feel pain in my right side”,
and see all the possibilities that come up.
Hopefully we finally manage to pull ourselves away
from our searches and assumptions and see a medical professional.
We then explain in detail what we’re feeling
inside, but that can never give us a conclusive understanding of what’s
actually going on inside. The doctor at this point, usually sends us for some
kind of testing to help to “see” inside of us.
This might be a scope, scan, blood test or biopsy
(removal of tissue to be examined further in a lab).
The point is, that our own “feelings”, “symptoms” and
“observations” can only go so far.
We need to go deeper to understand. We need to “see”
inside of ourselves to figure out how we are to heal. When the doctor takes a
look at these inside results, they have a better ability to get to the root of
the problem.
The same goes for our spiritual life and faith.
We sometimes sit in our sorrow, confusion and emptiness
trying to evaluate on the surface what ails us. We know what we feel, but we
can’t truly see inside.
Our emotions can be as symptomatic as our bodies.
Those feelings of being not quite right go beyond simply a pain in our side or
an ache in our back.
Hopefully when we’ve again managed to pull
ourselves away from our empty assumptions, we go to the Great Physician with
our spiritual pain, and we tell Him where it hurts and how we feel.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
We put down our guard and get real with God
(Sometimes feeling as vulnerable as we do sitting in a paper gown, feet dangling off an exam table, while explaining
where it hurts.)
Doctors are busy
people and often cannot be there right when you need them. But God comes when
you call Him. His diagnosis is always accurate. He can cleanse every wound and
heal every sickness.
God listens intently. God comforts
compassionately.
He too goes deeper in order to see what’s going on
inside of us. He can see it all; better than any imaging machine. He knows each
cell in our body intimately and each thought that consumes us in detail. He
knows the root of our heart ache and the remedy to our soul.
He covers us with a healing peace in times of
trouble and uncertainty; a peace that surpasses all understanding.
“And
the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts
and your minds in Christ Jesus.”-Philippians 4:7
Have you gone to
the Great Physician or are you still trying to manage your broken spirit alone?
The best part is there’s
no appointment required and no limit to the time He’ll give you to share your
heart.
Sit down with Him
today and tell Him how you feel. Let His healing hands cover you and give you
peace.
“LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you
healed me.” — Psalm 30:2
